Feb 9, 2020 –  9 a.m. – 3 p.m.

Feb 10, 2020 – 6 p.m. – 9 p.m.

Feb 11, 2020 – 6 p.m. – 9 p.m.

Feb 12, 2020 – 6 p.m. – 9 p.m.

Age groups will be assigned to the dates and times very soon.

All evaluations will be held at the Gordie Howe Sports Complex, 1525 Avenue P South, please wear indoor shoes as cleats are not allowed on the turf. You will also need to bring your glove, helmet, bat (there will be bats on hand to use) and a water bottle. If you are a catcher and have your own equipment, we recommend that you bring that as well.

There will be 2 sessions per division, and we encourage everyone to attend both. However, 1 is the minimum requirement to be considered for an “A” team. If your athlete does attend both evaluation sessions, we will use their best scores towards their ranking.

Evaluations will be divided in 2 parts, Game Play and Skills. We will be playing a live modified game for half of the evaluation time. Your athlete will be scored on their ball knowledge/IQ, their ability to use their physical skills during game play and sportsmanship. During the Skills portion, they will be evaluated on the following:

Live (pitching machine)

                – Mechanics, Contact and Power

Bunting (pitching machine)

                – Mechanics and Contact

*U12 will be asked to Sacrifice Bunt only

*U14 and U16 will be asked to Sac, Surprise and Slap Bunt

Ground Balls

                – Fielding Mechanics and Footwork

                – Accuracy, Strength and Transfer Speed

                – Fielding Mechanics and Footwork

                – Accuracy, Strength and Transfer Speed

*Please note that catches and misses during the Infield/Outfield Evaluation plays very little impact on their score.

                – Mechanics for receiving and blocking

                – Arm Strength and Accuracy and Transfer time with throws to 2nd. Picks off to 1st and 3rd will be added if time permits.

                – Overall Mechanics

                – Speed and location of all available pitches

*U12 – Fastball and Change Up

*U14 – Fastball, Change Up and Drop Ball

*U16 – Fastball, Change Up, Drop Ball and either a Rise Ball, Curve Ball or Drop Curve.

Please note that we have hired Evaluators to evaluate the players, NOT to run the drills during the evaluations. We will use Board Members, Coaches and Parents as needed to hit balls, catch, feed the pitching machines and anywhere else we feel we can use some extra hands. Also, the 3 “A” coaches will be in place prior to evaluations, and as we’ve always done, they will be allowed on the field during their respective time slots to take notes and do their own evaluation to help them with their coaches picks.
